Mies Van Der Rohe began his career in architecture in Berlin. In the mid-1920's, he began to design furniture, pieces that he conceived and created for particular interiors. In 1927, he met Lilly Reich, a Bauhaus alumnus who collaborated with Mies on this first versions of a cantilevered chair with a tubular steel frame. The MR20 cantilevered chair has a curved frame that exploits the aesthetic, as well as the structural possibilities of this material. Made in Italy.

Inspired by Van Der Rohe this chair has a chrome plated tubular steel frame with either hand-woven natural cane seat, back and arms or leather seat back and arm.
About Designer
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969) began his career working in his father's stonemasonary business. He then took an apprenticeship with Berlin furniture designer Bruno Paul. He later joined the office architect Peter Behrens, whose work presaged the modern movement. Mies established his own office in Berlin in 1912 a, and went on to become a member of the Deutscher Werkbund and Director of the Bauhaus. In 1938 he immigrated to the United States and setup a practice in Chicago. One of his most famous buildings is the German Pavilion built for the 1929 Barcelona Exposition.
