About Claus Bertram

Libra ' is a design by the Dutch artist Claus Bertram (The Haque, 1938). Anyone familiar with his work - monumental sculptures and paintings - will immediately recognise the clear language of the lines of the design of the Libra table. "For me, the development for a sculpture is no different to the design of this table. I make both with the same basic principle in mind: repetition of forms. The forms I use in a design must - in their mutual relationship, together with the chosen material - generate a tension that is unique". Claus Bertram originally studied precision mechanics & architecture and worked for several years as a technical designer. But he was soon back at school studying to be a teacher of drawing. This was followed by a higher vocation study in monumental painting and sculpture. Claus Bertram has now worked as an artist for some thirty years. His work is regularly exhibited in the Netherlands and abroad. |
