Rene Herbst used elasticated straps or 'sandows' in the design of this chair. Their structural simplicity and transparency of form give their design a skeletal minimalism. Inspired by Herbst, this chair has a chromium plated steel frame with elasticated straps forming the chair seat and back. Available with or without arms. Minimum order quantity 2. Made in Italy.

About Rene Herbst

Rene Herbst (1891-1983) was born in France and was one of the leading French designers in between the first and second World Wars. In 1929 he co-founded the UAM (Union of Artistes Modernes) with Le Corbusier and Jean Puiforcat amongst others. This organisation was set up to promote the ideals of Modernism through publications and exhibitions. He started his own manufacturing company to produce limited editions of his furniture, however most of his designs were complicated and costly to produce. |
