| Philippe Starck was born in Paris in 1949. He won the La Vilette furniture competition in 1965 and was commissioned in 1968 by L. Venturi and later Quasar to create designs for inflatable furniture. He later founded one of the first companies to start producing this type of furniture. In 1969 he was appointed Art Director of the Pierre Cardin studio where he designed over 65 pieces of furniture. He then went on to start his own manufacturing company, Stark Products and has designed furniture for a number of well known furniture companies such as Vitra and Disform. In 1986 he became a visiting lecturer at the Domus Academy in Milan. |
