| Eero Saarinen (1910-1961) was the son of architect Eiliel Saarinen, Director of Cranbrook Academy of Arts. He was a student of fine arts in Paris and then architecture at Yale before working with Norman Bel Geddes to design furniture and practicing architecture with his father in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He met Charles Eames at Cranbrook and collaborated with Eames on several projects, including a plywood leg splint for the U.S. Army. He opened his own practice in Ann Arbor in 1950. Great buildings for which he is known are Dulles Airport in Washington D.C. and the TWA Terminal at Kennedy International Airport in New York. He has received several awards and has been the subject of many exhibitions. |
